Permitting Impervious Reduction

When the owner of a skilled care center wanted to upgrade the outdoor spaces to create a garden, seating area, and accessible walks and gathering spaces, the Conservation Commission and flood zone posed a challenge. To prevent any downstream flooding, existing walks that were largely unused by residents and staff were removed to decrease the property's impervious area. Removing these paved areas allowed for the creation of outdoor spaces for strolling and dining by the residents and their visitors.
