UBLA believes in working with our clients to provide the highest quality design and construction administration services.

Our process begins with a client interview to understand the goals of the client, and is then followed by a thorough assessment to determine the site's negative and positive features.  Throughout the design process, we combine progressive ideas about stormwater management, use of native, lower-maintenance plants, utilizing appropriately sourced / reclaimed materials and water reclamation with the characteristics of the unique site.  Probable costs are considered throughout the process, helping to guide design decisions and be sure that the final plan is within our client's budget.

We further partner with select clients to see the developed design through to completion.  Working with skilled tradesman with whom we have established trusting relationships over the last 20 years, we provide in-depth construction administration services.  We act as the owner's representative to be sure that projects are delivered on time, on budget, and built according to the design intent.

NEW POOL, PATIO, FENCING, AND LIGHTING

Andover Historic

Working for a return client, this project joined the 2012 upper bluestone terrace to a new pool and associated decking. Bluestone, brick, ipe wood, new plantings, period fencing, and lighting were all seamlessly integrated with the existing house and patio.  A series of well defined and unique terraced spaces lead one from the house, through entertaining spaces, to the pool.  UBLA provided design and construction management services for this recently completed project.

SITE PLANNING, ENTRY COURT AND GARDEN DESIGN

Georgetown Tudor

UBLA provided design and construction management services for this residential project in Georgetown, MA. The landscape design included the placement of a 2 car garage, extensive driveway and parking court redesign, and the integration of a seat wall and patio with the new kitchen addition. ENTRY DESIGN AND PARKING COURT

Manchester By the Trees

UBLA provided permitting, landscape design and construction administration services to see this project from inception to completion. The original U shaped driveway and pavement area extended up to the front door, and made for an akward parking and entry to this remodeled home. UBLA designed a new parking court/backout, a generous walkway to the front door, extensive boulder placements and naturalized plantings in keeping with the woodland context of the site. Two hand split granite posts, lit from below, accent the entry from the street. .

PERGOLA, TERRACE, LIGHTING AND GARDEN DESIGN

Beverly Quarry

A sunken garden was created in this small backyard through the use of a reclaimed dimensional granite block wall.  Split face granite steps playfully narrow and widen, leading  one from the driveway to the grape covered pergola and patio below.  Red Cedar horizontal slat fencing provides privacy and a unique background at night.  Granite blocks artfully placed in the garden and patio echo the granite retaining wall throughout the yard.

LANDSCAPE MASTER PLANNING AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Pride's Fire pit

Sometimes small projects make a big difference!  By opening up existing walls and adding a wide set of steps, a new fire pit space was created with a strong connection to the existing terrace.  Through careful material selections and rehabbing of existing stucco walls, this new space looks like it has always been there.

HARDSCAPE, PLANTING AND LIGHTING DESIGN

Marblehead Residential

UBLA provided design and construction administration services for this residential project.  A small existing bluestone patio was reused in this new enlarged terrace through careful color matching and pattern design, and existing cement landings and stairs were reclad in brick with bluestone treads.  Screening concerns proved challenging in the narrow side yard, which was addressed by planting Phyllostachys aureosuculcata ‘Lama Temple’, an upright variety of bamboo which can attain heights of 15′ within a 3-5 year span. Its bold yellow/orange culms pop against the essex green of a universal board fence with an 18″ lattice topper.

HARDSCAPE AND PLANTING DESIGN

Suburban Meadow

UBLA provided design and construction administration services for this residential project in Topsfield, MA. Early conceptual planning with the septic engineer allowed for alternate placement of the leaching field and septic tank, thereby freeing up much needed play space in the front yard. Extensive native and drought tolerant ornamental plantings are used to give shape and depth to the front yard, while setting it back off of the road.
